At the northern tip of the Alpine Pacific triangle touring route is the township of Kaikoura. Kaikoura was originally a whaling town and is now famous for whale watching tours. These giants of the deep come close to shore here, and are well worth the trip. Kaikoura has many fine seafood restaurants and is famous for its crayfish. You certainly don't want to miss the opportunity to taste the fresh crayfish, straight from the pot!

Try the fishing, lime stone caving or 4-wheel biking! Other things you must see include the seal colony and you might also like to visit one of the small art galleries in the area.
