Boating on the Avon

In the centre of Christchurch is what is known as the Cultural Precinct. When staying at Stoneleigh Lodge bed and breakfast, Christchurch's Cultural Precinct is definitely worth a visit. It encompasses a wide variety of activities, from boating on the Avon River to fine art, museums and outdoor markets. All these are within easy walking distance from the centre of the city, or you can get a ride on one of the historic trams that loop about the centre of the city.

The River Avon winds its way through the centre of the city and the Botanical Gardens. You can travel on the Avon in two very different ways. The first involves sitting back and watching the world go by as you indulge yourself on a classical Oxford flat bottomed punt floating down the river. Punting is a great way to relax (letting some one else do all the work)! It is a great way to tour around the park and the Botanical Gardens.

The other way to take to the Avon is by hiring a rowboat or canoe from the Antigua Boat sheds, just down from the Arts Centre and the Canterbury Museum. Paddling up the Avon is a great way to have fun and see the Botanical Gardens and Hagley Park. It is a lot of fun for all the family.

"Enjoy idyllic, romantic days from your bed and breakfast in Christchurch."
