Christchurch B&B

The waters off the coastal town of Kaikoura are a haven for several species of whale.
They can be seen on whale watching tours.

Whale Watching in Kaikoura

At the northern tip of the Alpine Pacific triangle touring route is the township of Kaikoura. The Alpine Pacific triangle touring route is the name given to a great scenic route that you might want to taking a few days to drive over, whilst staying at Stoneleigh lodge, a luxury Christchurch B&B.

The magic of Kaikoura, where the mountains meet the sea is hard to describe. It is a very popular tourist destination with all age groups.

The Kaikoura Peninsula is at the convergence of two sea currents, one subtropical and the other subantarctic. The abundance of sea life is mind-boggling. Giant squid inhabit the deeps of the Kaikoura Trench. Whales and dolphins abound and there are a number of charter operators who can take you out to meet these denizens of the deep in their natural habitat. You can also take helicopter or fixed wing aircraft flights out to see the whales.

Other ocean life includes the seal colony you can walk to at one end of the township and a bewildering number of different seabirds.

"The town of Kaikoura, famous for its whale watching tours, is a drive away."
