Skiing Near Our Christchurch B&B Accommodation

From June to November, the snow's all go for skiing in Canterbury New Zealand.

Skiing

We are blessed with the Southern Alps nearby. We have a number of ski fields nearby for skiing enthusiasts. These range from smaller family oriented club fields to larger commercial field like Mount Hutt. Mount Hutt is about one hour's drive from our Christchurch B&B accommodation. It can be open from as early as May to as late as October. (One year, skiing was possible in late as November). The Field is 2075m above sea level. As Stoneleigh and Christchurch is nearly at sea level that makes for a very pleasant drive into and up the Alps. The views are great, even if you are not a skier! It can be a bit like going hot air ballooning without having to leave the ground.

Mount hutt Ski field covers 365 hectares of skiable terrain. Facilities include a large chalet with café, and ski hire. Beginners' slopes have magic carpets. Other slopes go from easy up to advanced, with two large chair lifts as well as poma lifts and T-bar lifts. There are half pipes and jumps etc. for snow boarders.

All this adds up to a great day's outing for skiers of all levels and all ages.
