Christchurch Homestay Accommodation in NZ

Birdlings Flat, a great place to catch your dinner and try fresh seafood cooked
on the beach — one of the simple joys of life in New Zealand.
Birdlings Flat
Rocks that have been broken down and polished smooth by the ocean form Birdlings Flat. Lake Ellesmere is next to it, and is separated from the sea by a narrow spit of sea shaped rocks stretching south from Birdlings Flat. This beach is on the way to Akaroa and is a pleasant drive from Stoneleigh Lodge, your Christchurch homestay accommodation in NZ.
Birdlings Flat is a favourite place for rock and gem hunters. Beautiful stones are there, just waiting for you to discover them, including jasper, agate and petrified wood. A word of warning! This is an ocean beach and it is strongly advised that you keep well clear of the waves, which can be very strong and dangerous. Occasionally you can see the rare Hector's Dolphins from the beach. These are one of the rarest dolphins in the world and Akaroa harbour has one of the largest remaining populations of this fascinating creature. They are a delight to see in their natural environment. This is a great spot for recreational fishing. It is always fun to see what the surfcasting fishermen have caught!
