Christchurch Luxury Bed and Breakfast

Christchurch Luxury Bed and Breakfast

Be prepared to see dolphins close up on boat trips out of Akaroa.

Akaroa

This picturesque French settlement is about two hours drive from your Christchurch luxury bed and breakfast at Stoneleigh Lodge. Akaroa is situated on Banks Peninsula and is a popular seaside destination offering many cafés and restaurants. You can take a launch trip to see the rare Hector's Dolphins. These are one of the rarest dolphins in the world. Akaroa harbour has one of the largest remaining populations of this fascinating creature. They are a delight to see in their natural environment.

Akaroa was originally a French settlement in the early nineteenth century. It was claimed by the British at Green point in 1840, just days before the French colonists arrived. The French influence has remained though, with French street names and beautiful heritage cottages surrounded by picket fences. The settlement is easy to explore by foot. By car the other settlements in the area can also be explored. Duvauchelle and French's Farm are well worth a look when you are over that way.

"Visting the harbour town of Akaroa is a great day trip from your Christchurch luxury bed and breakfast."
