Waipara Valley

This is about 25 minutes drive from Stoneleigh your Christchurch luxury lodge. You can easily get there for a morning or afternoon. You also pass through this area if you drive over the Alpine Pacific Triangle. Starting from the low-lying Canterbury Plains this scenic route takes you through the Waipara Valley and on to the Hurinui district and Hanmer Springs area. You then come out onto the rugged Kaikoura coastline and can then go north or come back down the coast back to Christchurch.

The Waipara Valley produces many wines. These include Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Pinot noir and Chardonnay. The annual output is about 100,000 cases of wine, and this is increasing each year with new plantings. The fascinating diversity of the terrain and local wine producers is the key to the wonderful wines produced here. Many wineries are open to visitors and there are several winery restaurants serving local cuisine and wines.
