Christchurch NZ — B&B

The Waimakariri District in North Canterbury,
tranquil farmland rolls right up to the foothills of the Southern Alps.
Waimakariri District
Stoneleigh Lodge, a Christchurch NZ B&B, is in the Waimakariri district between the two towns of Kaiapoi and Rangiora.
Kaiapoi is a river town, nestled about the Kaiapoi River. It was originally the site of a Maori pa. The name Kaiapoi means "food depot". In the 1850s through to the 1960s it was an important coastal trading town servicing local processing industries. Goods such as wool, timber, potatoes, hides and tallow as well as grain and flour moved through the port. The MV Tuhoe is a restored coastal trader, which you can take to tour the river as far as the mouth.
Activities in Kaiapoi include kayaking, boat trips, water skiing, as well as shopping, restaurants and coffee shops.
Rangiora is a local town servicing the surrounding farming areas. It is a thriving rural town with a history of its own. It was founded only two years after Christchurch. It has some lovely old heritage buildings, including beautiful old wooden churches. There are a number of museums nearby including a colonial museum and the Vintage Tractor Museum. Heron's Steam Museum with its famous collection of restored traction engines is always worth a visit for enthusiasts.
